Hello! I'm so glad you found my page. I hope that you take the time to contact me so that we can get to know each other, but first, let me give you a little background information about me.
My husband and I have been homeschooling our children since 2008. In 2024, we graduated our youngest child from our homeschool. As a new homeschooling parent, I was desperate for help. I read every book and blog; I tried to join a small, local support group, which I ended up running in pretty short order; I purchased an online curriculum that I thought would keep us on track, and yet I still felt like I was barely keeping my head above water. So please know, I understand the struggles and challenges you face. Have hope! There are so many blessings that await you and your children on your homeschooling journey.
A few years later, in 2012, after I felt like I found my bearings, I co-founded and became the executive director of a homeschool co-op, Heritage Family Educators. For seven years, it was an immense blessing to serve my community in that way. Among my numerous administrative responsibilities, I assisted new homeschooling families and taught many students. My abilities were stretched as I learned new skills to effectively lead a bunch of crazy, loving, self-sacrificing families. I have held many different jobs and led many different groups, teams, and activities over the years, but my time with homeschoolers has been the most rewarding.
Like many homeschool moms, my career outside of the home had to be set aside. As the finish line approached, I started considering what my next career move would be, and I realized that I had already found it. In 2019, I picked back up where I left off in my education and entered a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Management of Information Systems which I completed May 4, 2021. What does this have to do with homeschooling? I don't know yet! My goal is to leverage my knowledge of business, technology, and education to better serve the homeschooling community. I believe that will take me on many amazing adventures.
My motto is: Yes, you can, and I can help. I have been challenged by so many families, moms in particular who tell me, "I could never homeschool my kids." I am here to tell you, yes you can! That doesn't mean you should. That doesn't mean you have to. And it doesn't mean you want to. It just means you can. Homeschooling is legal in every state, and God has or will equip you to follow the path he has laid out for you. So...again...yes you can. Parents often believe they can't because they don't have an education degree. Millions of parents have now proved that you can homeschool your child effectively without a degree in education or any degree at all. I have witnessed people who you would never peg as someone who could homeschool do just that. In fact, there were those in my life who thought I shouldn't homeschool my children. I'm glad I didn't listen to them and my own doubts. The one thing that makes the journey easier though is to seek help from a team of people who have gone before you. That is where I come in. I want to help families go as far as they want to in homeschooling and do so successfully.
The Biblical truth of freedom in Christ (Gal 5: 1, 22-23) has inspired me as a family educator and in my career as an homeschool advocate. Homeschooling is not about educating a home, it is about educating children, and maybe even more broadly, the whole family. It is a lifestyle of lifelong learning that is not limited by the walls of a building or even a home. What is home anyway? A house, an apartment, an RV, a tent? Home is where you hang your hat, and sometimes your hat is simply hung on your head. Our culture has forgotten what educational freedom really looks like. Not every state enjoys liberty of parent directed education as it was meant to be, but the idea is rooted in this truth: God, not the state, has entrusted the well-being and rearing of children to their parents and that includes their education (Deut 5-6, Ps 127, Prv 1). He tells us to educate our children everywhere, all the time. Let that be a guiding light to you on your own homeschooling journey.
